Supplier assistance programs
Hardship programs
Some energy and water suppliers in NSW operate special
programs for customers experiencing financial hardship.
These programs can offer budgeting assistance, incentives
for regular payments, and exemptions from disconnection
to eligible participants.
Not all suppliers offer this service, so contact your electricity,
gas or water
supplier for further information.
Payment plans and options
Electricity and gas suppliers are required to operate payment
plans for customers who they consider to be experiencing
financial difficulties. Water suppliers offer similar plans.
Payment plans differ markedly according to your supplier.
If you are having payment difficulty, ask your electricity,
gas or water
supplier about the options available.
Centrepay
Most of the major companies offer Centrepay to Centrelink customers. With Centrepay, you nominate an amount to be deducted from your pension or benefit payment (minimum of $10 per fortnight). Centrelink transfers this amount to your energy or water account.
When you make a small payment every fortnight you may still receive a quarterly bill, but only for the amount still owing on your account. Contact Centrelink or your energy or water company to ask about Centrepay.
