Ombudsman to host FREE Bring Your Bills Day in Dareton

Energy bill complaints increase in the Murray region

The Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON) reported a 7% increase in complaints from customers in the Murray region in FY25, above the state average.

EWON is a free, fair and independent dispute resolution service that assists customers when they can’t resolve issues with their energy or water provider.

To support customers in the region, EWON will host a  Bring Your Bills Day for residents and small businesses in Dareton on 4 March 2026. Acting Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW, Rosa Krilic will attend the free event.

In the Murray region, billing issues accounted for an average of 67% of all complaints to EWON, including complaints about high or estimated bills as well as problems with rebates or concessions.

"We understand that customers are facing affordability challenges and accumulating energy debt. That's why we're bringing our staff directly to the community, to offer advice on managing bills, saving energy, and dealing with energy providers,” said Acting Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW, Rosa Krilic.

“Our aim is to address people's concerns, review bills, and work together to resolve any issues face to face.”

EWON will be joined by a range of community and government agencies including Murdi Paaki - TSEP, Revenue NSW, Service NSW, St Vincent de Paul and Legal Aid. Energy providers, including Origin Energy, Energy Australia, Red Energy and Essential Energy, will be there to offer direct assistance to their customers with their energy bills, debt, payment plans and rebates. Additionally, consumers will receive specialised support and advice on legal and financial matters, tenancy rights, and community and social services.

To make the most of these events, customers are encouraged to bring:

  • Current and past energy bills

  • Letters from retailers

  • Centrelink Health Cards, and any other relevant concession cards.
