Energy and Water Ombudsman NSW Independent five-year review 2024
October 2024
Dr Gavin McBurnie and Professor Chris Gill were selected to conduct the 2024 review. The primary focus was how well we comply with the Australian Government’s Benchmarks for Industry-based Customer Dispute Resolution.
As part of the review, the Ombudsman requested a briefing paper - Expectations of a Leading Ombudsman Service – Insights from the Academic Literature. The purpose was for the reviewers to also consider, as part of their review, how EWON performed against external Australian and international expectations of services provided by leading ombudsman offices. And in turn, for EWON to consider how it can uplift its service to continually meet those expectations.
The value of the paper has been noted by other Ombudsman offices/reviewers and is now being shared so that other Ombudsman offices/reviewers can also take it into consideration. More broadly, it may be used for debate or discussion at Ombudsman conferences or other forums. Enquiries about the paper or its use are welcome – janiney@ewon.com.au; gavinmcburnie@aol.com; or chris.gill@glasgow.ac.uk.
