Supporting funding for financial counselling services

When customers come to EWON experiencing affordability issues it’s often not isolated to their energy or water bill. If we recognise a deeper financial issue, we refer them to a financial counsellor and likewise, they often refer clients directly to us. But funding for financial counselling services is often sporadic.

That’s why we’re building on our previous submission to the Review of the coordination and funding of financial counselling services across Australia by recommending:

• The introduction of industry-based funding for financial counselling services – the industries that benefit from financial counselling services should fund them, including the energy and water sectors. 

• The establishment of a body that’s responsible for funding data collection to inform policy development, trends and service delivery.
