Free, fair and independent assistance for locals affected by new energy infrastructure

EWON to hold drop-in sessions in the Hunter region, 22-25 June

The Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW (EWON) will visit Millfield, Cessnock, Branxton, Broke, Jerry’s Plains and Muswellbrook on 22-25 June 2026 to speak with landholders and community members about renewable energy infrastructure.

EWON provides an independent dispute resolution service - it does not represent government, industry or consumers, and works to achieve fair and reasonable outcomes for all parties.

“EWON’s Energy Transition team is coming to the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone to listen to locals,” said Janine Young, Energy & Water Ombudsman NSW. “We want to fully understand the issues communities are facing, provide advice and resolve complaints.”

“EWON can assist with issues resulting from actions taken by infrastructure entities that affect property, community engagement, land access and agreements, conduct of contractors working for infrastructure entities, the Strategic Benefits Payments Scheme and more”.

EWON's ‘no wrong door’ referral service also connects locals to other agencies for assistance with complaints and enquiries.

“We can’t stop or delay these projects, but we can help people navigate the maze of different organisations involved in delivering the transmission and network infrastructure,” said Ms Young.

Breakfast or afternoon tea will be provided at all drop-in sessions.

• Millfield: Monday 22 June, 3.30pm- 6pm, Millfield Community Hall, 25 Bennett St

• Cessnock: Tuesday 23 June, 8am – 10.30am, Bellbird Community Centre, 2A Crossing St

• Branxton: Tuesday 23 June, 3.30pm – 6pm, Branxton Community Centre, 35 Bowen St

• Broke: Wednesday 24 June, 8am – 10.30am, Broke Community Hall, 5 Adair St

• Jerry’s Plains: Wednesday 24 June, 3.30pm - 6 pm, Jerry’s Plains School of Arts Hall, Wambo St

• Muswellbrook: Thursday 25 June, 8am-10.30am, Donald Horne Building, 140 Bridge St
