Energy prices and cost of living pressures remain major complaint drivers. Many retailers notified customers of price increases toward the end of the financial year, which is reflected in our complaints data. Price increase complaints didn’t feature in our Top 10 Core Issues last quarter but emerged as the fourth highest core issue this quarter with a 65.7% increase from the quarter before, and 113.5% higher than April to June 2022, a considerable increase.  

Payment difficulty and debt collection complaints trended up compared to the quarter before and the same quarter the year before. Disputed high bill complaints increased 5.2% compared to the prior quarter and, significantly, by 88.7% compared to the April to June 2022 quarter.
